Today was the first time I have attended a Writer's Conference. It was AWESOME!
If you are even considering writing or blogging, you've got to attend one of these great seminars!
I ran into some old friends and was exposed to this subculture of writers. I have to admit that I was kind of expecting some more nerdy, organic types and wasn't going to feel like I fit in...why? Because I'm "Foo-Foo", you know, the kind of girl that likes make-up, an extra grande purse and big hair. Happily, I blended in, as there were a variety of shapes, sizes, ages and styles and I truly felt like there was some kind of golden thread that connected all of us there.
I was blessed to learn about writing Devotions, learn about criticism, compliments and publishing trends and how to write a book proposal. My favorite session was on blogging. John Fox ( www.thejohnfox.com) inspired me to start this blog which is going to be as specific as possible. He made me ask myself, who is my audience? WHY am I writing? WHAT are my peeps going to take away from my blog?
Good questions to consider and ponder.....and most of all...what is MY MOTIVATION? Money? Fame? Or is it to honor God, our Lord and Savior?
Honestly, when I started my blog it was simply to quench this deep desire I have had for YEARS to write...I didn't know what (and sometimes still don't, but I do this anyway! ha ha) my motivation was because it was really to stop this yearning I had and still have to express myself. Yelling and screaming aren't enough, so I write.
